Do I Really Need Supplements If I Eat Clean?

Most people say they eat well, but research shows we are not getting enough omega-3’s, antioxidants, and a host of the other vitamins and minerals that our bodies need.  In fact, according to the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition and the American Society of Nutrition, 92% of us are deficient in one or more nutrients necessary to prevent deficiency diseases (let alone boost racing performance). Nutrient deficiencies are linked to many other conditions too, such as chronic fatigue, depression, cognitive decline, and a reduced immune system.  That’s why a multivitamin, along with other key nutritional supplements, can be a great insurance policy to fill in those nutritional gaps that may otherwise leave us beat down, broken, and on the sidelines come race day.

Here’s something else to consider… Our bodies contain trillions of cells and billions of new cells are created every day. Each cell is like a high-performance engine which needs high-quality raw materials (or nutrients) to function properly.  We cannot manufacture most of these vitamins on our own. Instead, they come only from the food we eat and the supplements we take. Unfortunately, we cannot get all of the nutrients our bodies require through food alone. Even if you have a super clean diet, it just isn't possible. Here’s a few of the reasons why...

  • 38% decline in the nutritional content of crops

  • 61% of the food purchased from supermarkets is highly processed

  • 98% of us don’t consume the daily-recommended servings of fruits & vegetables

  • A significant decrease in the diversity of fruits and vegetables consumed and the addition of toxins like pesticides, herbicides, hormones, and antibiotics in our food

These are just some of the more obvious downsides to living in a modern industrialized society, but this may explain why many athletes find a personalized supplement program to be the “missing link” in reaching their physical and genetic potential.

When we talk about supplementation, we’re not suggesting you take artificial stimulants and synthetic performance products. Those are dangerous and should be avoided at all times.  Instead, we’re referring to all-natural, whole-food supplements from a brand you can trust.  We have done a significant amount of research on this topic and, through our own implementation and use, found that only Shaklee delivers.

Shaklee has dedicated themselves to being the foremost experts in scientific research and formulation of the most effective natural nutrition products on the planet. This means no artificial flavors, sweeteners, or preservatives, and only the best natural ingredients.  Before any ingredient goes into a Shaklee supplement, it must first pass the most stringent screening process in the industry where it is tested for over 350 contaminants and 320 pesticides. Then, they create their own proprietary formulas and rigorously test for purity and potency. That is why Shaklee guarantees every product to be 100% safe and effective.

CAUTION: Choose your brand carefully!  The diet and exercise industry is littered with products where marketing quality far surpasses product quality.  9 out of 10 supplements contain some form of a known toxin, genetically modified ingredient, dangerous filler, or allergenic compound that can offset and negate any potential benefit (see California Prop 65 for a complete list).
